Protected (Pop-up) cycle lanes were installed along Noel Burnside Road in July 2023. Protecting existing cycle lanes using concrete cycle separators is a cost-effective method for improving safety and amenity for cyclists, which encourages cycling as a transport mode. Also, safer cycling is aligned with the safety targets of ‘Vision Zero’. Furthermore, motivating cyclists helps Auckland reach the climate targets of ‘Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri’.

 

TES designed the project from conception to construction, and the physical works included installation of concrete separators, signage, road-marking, and upgrading existing storm water catchpits to ‘cycle friendly’.
