Hendry Avenue is the first Transport Choices Programme project that has been delievered in Auckland. The project closes a crucial one kilometre gap on the South-western Cycleway network in Onehunga.

This section of the South-western cycleway crosses from off-road into a shared on-road setting, increasing the risk with cyclists sharing the road with motorists. This segment also has a very steep natural grade, with a narrow throughway pinch point connection between two adjoining historic cul-de-sacs.

As part of this project, the TES team designed numerous improvements including speed humps with cycle bypasses, new pedestrian and cycle zebra crossings, significant widening of the pinch point, and streetlighting upgrades. Public feedback since implementation has been incredibly positive with users stopping to thank the project team when on site.
